Mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) is an insect able to live in very dry stored products, including flour, hence its name miller or mealworms.
Rich in protein and B vitamins, fiber, omega 3, iron, and even calcium, mealworm is one of the most complete edible insects in terms of nutrient intake. Also his breeding is extremely simple and requires little energy. In this there is a prospect of uncompetitive own agriculture with livestock and human consumption, like all insects we control the breeding and reproduction. Beyond these nutritional and environmental qualities, the mealworm is delicious and useful in many ways in our kitchens, in salads, quiche, cake and protein bars.
Australian companies have recently developed hamburgers algal compounds and flour insects whose taste and texture like if mistaken for that of meat.
